What Makes Night Vision Different
3M Night Vision uses dual reflective technology — it is more reflective on the outside during the day for privacy, but less reflective at night so you can still enjoy the view out after dark. It blends solar control with daytime privacy in a single film.

Night Vision comes in three shades from darker to lighter:
- NV15 — darkest, highest daytime privacy
- NV25 — balanced privacy and visibility
- NV35 — lightest, more view-through with privacy
Performance
Across the range, Night Vision rejects significant solar heat and blocks up to 99% of UV rays while providing strong daytime privacy. Heat rejection and visible light transmission vary by shade, with darker NV15 offering the most heat control and privacy.

The Mirror-at-Night Problem, and How Night Vision Fixes It
Traditional reflective film works by bouncing light off the brighter side of the glass. During the day that means privacy from outside. After sunset the relationship flips: the interior is now the bright side, so the window reflects the room back at you and the view outside disappears behind your own reflection.
Night Vision is engineered asymmetrically. The exterior-facing construction stays reflective for daytime privacy and solar control, while the interior surface is deliberately low-reflectivity so evening view-through is preserved. You get the privacy benefit at 2pm without the mirror effect at 9pm.
Where the Evening View Actually Matters
Three situations come up constantly in Los Angeles. Families who watch television in a room with a large window get a distracting mirrored screen reflection with conventional film. Restaurants along Sunset, Ventura Boulevard, and Abbot Kinney sell the street view as part of the experience and cannot have diners staring at their own table. Offices with perimeter glass lose the daylight-and-view benefit staff value most once the sun drops in winter.
