Why Campus Entry Glazing Is the Priority
School lockdown procedure assumes a locked classroom door holds. On the majority of LAUSD campuses, that door sits beside a vision panel or a full-height sidelight of ordinary glass, and the same is true of the main office and administration entry. Reaching through broken glass to a thumb-turn or panic bar defeats the lock without touching it.
Hardening the glass restores the assumption the procedure is built on. A filmed panel does not stay intact forever, but it does force sustained, extremely loud, visible effort — which is time for a lockdown to complete, for staff to move students away from the corridor, and for police response to close the distance.

Procurement Paths Within the District
Districts the size of LAUSD buy this work in more than one way, and which path applies depends almost entirely on scope value.
Larger multi-site programs run through formal solicitations administered by district procurement, typically a competitive bid or an RFP with award to a responsive, responsible bidder. Smaller single-campus scopes are frequently handled at site level using discretionary or safety funds, or through an existing facilities services arrangement. Projects funded by voter-approved school construction bond programs carry their own administrative and reporting requirements on top.
We are set up to respond either way. We provide per-opening scope documentation and pricing suitable for a competitive solicitation, and a simpler quote and product package for a principal or plant manager buying a single campus's worth of vision panels.
Contractor Requirements on Public School Work
Public school projects in California carry obligations that a commercial job does not, and they are non-negotiable. Contractors performing public works must be registered with the state's labor compliance program, pay prevailing wage rates for the applicable classification, and submit certified payroll records for the work.
School sites add further requirements: fingerprinting and background clearance for personnel working on a campus, compliance with district site access and sign-in procedures, and safety documentation. We hold current California contractor licensing and general liability and workers' compensation coverage, and we handle the compliance paperwork as part of the job rather than as an afterthought that delays close-out.
Working Around the School Calendar
The overwhelming majority of our campus work happens when students are not present. Summer break is the window for whole-campus programs, and winter and spring breaks suit single-building scopes. Where a scope must proceed during term, we work evenings and weekends, building by building, with each area handed back secured and clean before the next school day.
Film installation involves no glass removal, no drilling, no fumes of consequence and no hot work, which is precisely why it fits a school calendar where glazing replacement does not.
Specification and Close-Out Documentation
Our standard campus specification is 8-mil clear safety and security film on classroom vision panels and interior glazing, and 12-mil with a structural silicone attachment system on main entry, administration and ground-floor exterior glazing where forced entry is the design concern.
Close-out includes a per-opening schedule listing film type, thickness and attachment method, manufacturer product data and test references, warranty documentation, certified payroll records, and dated completion records by building — the package a district facilities department needs on file and a site administrator needs for a safety plan.
